Last year we holidayed in Devon. A lush county here in the UK with some of the country’s most beautiful beaches.
I was amazed as to how progressive the beaches were. They all differed according to the needs of their targeted customers. There were:
- Surfing beaches with surf shops selling funky gear with breakers and easy access to the beach.
- Dog owner beaches with poo-bins, pebbles rather than sand, water bowls at the tea shop
- Family beaches with sand dunes, extra wide parking bays for the 4×4’s, shallow areas for the children to swim with no rip tides.
- Diving beaches with offshore wreck visible at low tide, ramps for vehicles and trailers to get into deep water, shops selling compressed air.
Beaches have evolved to target customers and to become totally customer centric. The beaches have built themselves around their customer’s needs and are having a successful renaissance.
How about you and your business? How customer centric are you?
My next visit to Devon I hope to find a surf dude family oriented dog owning diver’s beach. I won’t as there’s no such thing. Be wary of targeting everyone, stands you from the crowd.
