As a busy and industrious front line coach, you take every opportunity to coach your team. But do you make sure you have a robust action plan at the end. Sometimes it is such a short coaching session and the action plan is so obvious, you don’t want to ask.
Here’s a useful tactic to use in those circumstances, so let me explain why.
And why is exactly what I’ll explain
Why is an acronym you can use to agree action plans at the end of the coaching session.
- W – what are you going to do?
- H – how are you going to do it?
- Y – how can you help them?
A tad corny maybe, but a quick way of getting an action plan. After all, coaching must create action, a next step, otherwise it’s pointless. Why’s that?
